Polls Lied, Clinton Cried.

by Adam J. Schmidt on January 9, 2008

I still have yet to see an ironclad explanation for the shocking discrepancy between the polling in New Hampshire and the actual outcome. Although this theory sounds plausible and at least one blogger hadn’t bought into the Obama hype completely leading up to the primary. I’ve a call planned for this evening to a friend of mine with more direct experience in campaigning so hopefully I’ll be able to report a more accurate assessment of what went wrong later tonight.

What struck me most watching the returns was the unwillingness of most pundits to deviate from the narrative they’d established in the five days since Iowa: Obama was going to ride a wave into New Hampshire, Hillary was finished. That said, Marc Ambinder has a solid wrap up over at the Atlantic.

In the end though both parties still lack a clear front runner so the fight to February 5th continues. If the field remains divided perhaps it will even drag on longer. I’m not ready to predict an epic fight to the nominating convention, I’m just saying I’d enjoy one.

UPDATE: Real Clear Politics has a strong analysis of Hillary’s win in NH. Hat tip Patrick Ruffini.

Here, Here! I'd enjoy an epic fight as well. Maybe we should have a neighborhood super tuesday party.... :)
